“Wow! What an emotional read!
I'll give it 4˝ Kleenexes out of 5.”

--Amazon review *****

A grieving widow reflects on her childhood and her marriage.  With her husband gone, the narrator turns her attention to art and grief, trying desperately to make something beautiful from such an ugly situation.

--Kirkus

Ms. Kennedy has captured “our stories” and poignantly conveyed the way to heal ourselves...to forgive, forgive, and forgive! Her grace, courage and resilience as a caregiver are an inspiration. To anyone who has cared for a person they love who is suffering from a terminal illness, and anyone working in hospice and palliative care, this book is a must read. It will grab you and vividly pull you along on the roller coaster, emotional, exhausting, journey of the caregiver. Her generosity in donating the profits from this book is indeed consistent with her generosity of sharing her private story and insights with all of us. She is a builder of hope.

--Fred McDaniel, Executive Director, HospiceCare, Inc

“Second Chance Ranch” is about life and living it to the fullest.  It is also about life beyond death.  For romantics, it is a therapeutic story that will melt hearts and open the door to a belief in second chances, however short lived.  And, surprisingly, there is a happy ending.   The book’s unique format kept me reading, as I did not know what to expect with the next sentence, the next paragraph, or the next page.  I could not put it down—I read until 3 o’clock in the morning. It is truly an amazing and healing narrative!

--Bettie Corbin Tucker, For IP Book Reviewers

“Second Chance Ranch” triggers many emotions. Barbara Kennedy accurately portrays a love that continues beyond loss and that loss does not end a relationship, it only changes it.

--Larry James, author “Celebrate Love”

Ms. Kennedy is obviously an intellect, a free-thinking individual, an artist who uses both words and pictures as her voice, and-above all-she is a unique storyteller. These stories are passionate, sensual, intriguing, and mysterious but, in my opinion, the author saved the best for last. The Holding Pen, a story from which the title of this book obviously evolved, is definitely a modern-day story; however, the messages conveyed are eternal-ones that have spanned generations. Who wants to be in The Holding Pen? The Holding Pen-A Collection of Unusual Love Prose is meant to be a "keeper." It is a classic, not soon to be forgotten!

-- Bettie Corbin Tucker, For IP Book Reviewers

"An eclectic set of meditations on love. In the first of these love stories, "Laina and the Vamp," Laina, a young dancer, falls in love with a vampire who sleeps in a black lacquered piano. Enriched with fanciful drawings, this tale of two eccentric creatures succumbing to love is winning..."
